Heating and Cooling Running & Maintenance

So now your system is installed and running at peak performance, it's virtually hassle-free.

However, there is one important thing that you do need to look after. The Return Air Filter needs to be cleaned every 3 to 4 months, as a dirty filter restricts the air-flow and will reduce the performance of your system, substantially. This is done by simply removing the face of the Purtech Grille, taking it outside and cleaning the filter - you can either vacuum it, or wash it down with a hose. If you do wash it, leave it in the shade to dry before replacing it.

We also recommend you register for the annual maintenance program to ensure that your system is operating at maximum efficiency. This maintenance service involves checking the refrigerant charge, air discharge temperatures, electrical connections, zone motor operation and the duct for any air leakage.  Click here to download the registration document, fill in your relevant details, and then fax it to the Intelligent Life office closest to you.

Recommended temperature settings and zone operation

Summer
Recommended temperature settings are between 23 to 24 degrees.

Winter
Recommended temperature settings are between 20 to 21 degrees.

To optimise performance of your system and lower running costs, close doors to rooms not being used and turn these zones off. It also helps the efficiency of your system to close all curtains at night in winter to minimise cold being transferred indoors. Windows must be closed when the system is operating.

In-home training
Once your Gen III is installed, we come to your home to teach you how to use all its functions and program it to suit your lifestyle. This is an unhurried process (we often spend 2 hours or more with you) while you practice and familiarise yourself with the system. And there's a 1300 number if you want help after we leave.

After Installation
We advise you to use the following procedure in the event of a system failure:
  • consult your operating instruction and ensure that the controls are set
  • check the Return Air Grille filter; clean if it is dirty
  • check the batteries and replace them if they are flat
  • check that power is available to the system
  • switch power to the air-conditioning system off either at the switchboard or at the outdoor unit isolator. Leave it off for about 20 seconds and wait to see if the unit restarts (time delay could be up to 10 minutes). This is a safety function: power spikes could cause the system's safety controls to lock out the compressor.Although the controller shows cooling/heating, the compressor will not operate in the safety lock out mode.
  • ensure that the outdoor unit is not obstructed. You should not store items in front or behind the outdoor unit.
